Why do scientists believe that evolution is a spontaneous phenomenon? A close look around and it seems designed.

Some other very good answers here already, detailing some of the problems in the question itself.

Actually a cursory look and it seems designed. When you look really closely, at the level of the biochemistry, the DNA, RNA, proteins, etc actually present and doing most of the basic mechanical work of life, then it becomes very clear just how much variation is actually present.

When you look very closely at the systems, they are remarkably messy, yet they work.

When you look really closely, it becomes abundantly clear that the evolution of life is a process that has random and sorted aspects to it.

The other major problem is around interpretation of the word belief. For anyone really involved in science, there is evidence and conjecture and balance of probabilities. All things have uncertainties, and some uncertainties are so small that we don’t normally waste time thinking about them, but if pushed, we must admit they exist.

And overall, on balance of probabilities, the idea of a designer behind evolution seems highly improbable.
