This guy may be a good economist, but as a virologist or epidemiologist he is a complete idiot.
If there is not isolation;
If the pandemic explodes and overwhelms medical facilities;
then the death rate will climb to close to 20%.
If people who get serious symptoms have access to oxygen, respirators, and good medical attention, then most survive. If not, then they die!
1 person in 5 does not die in car accidents each year.
This virus is a serious threat – believe that, and act accordingly, and you and your loved ones will probably survive.
Ignore it, and someone you love will probably die, and if you love more than 10 people, then probably more than one.
It is real.
Read the WHO reports.
Look deeply at the math.
Compare the deaths to the recovered – those are the numbers that count. Any that haven’t yet got to recovered are still at risk.
NZ is on lockdown.
No foreign nationals into the country – they are not taking this as seriously as it needs to be taken. We tried asking them to self isolate, and too many didn’t do it.
NZ residents and nationals can return, but no visitors.
