Upward and Onward… HomoEvolutis
The study of #wisdom is one of our oldest intellectual pursuits.
There is an ancient Chinese proverb:
Wisdom comes from good judgement;
Good judgement comes from experience;
Experience comes from mistakes;
Mistakes come from bad judgement.
The trick in gaining wisdom seems to be accepting and acknowledging mistakes.
Ideas like Truth, and good and evil, seem to me to be a very simplistic model of a very complex reality.
Most of the time we really don’t know what the ultimate consequences of any action will be.
All any of us can really do, is to give it our best shot, our best guess, using the best information we have available , then be prepared to dance with the consequences, however they work out.
If we value freedom, then we must accept diversity as its necessary consequence.
And infinity has this rather unsettling aspect, that the more we know, the more we know we don’t know and the less confident we become of many things we were once very certain of. Perhaps such acceptance is all part of wisdom.
