Joke on NZSkeptics
In a really perverse way – homeopathy kind of works.
Given that it is all down to placebo effect, and given that pure water is about as safe as it gets, then the purer they make the water, the better it works. So in a weird roundabout kinda way – it does work.
The key to having it work is having the practitioners believe it will work, so that they can pass that belief onto the patients – which is how placebo actually seems to work – it’s all about the various levels of expectation functions in our neural networks, which includes aspects of trust relationships etc – highly dimensional.
And yes – good joke!
Yep – in a real sense, all placebo effect is doing is reducing the stress inhibition response of our immune system – allowing it to work without being compromised by the many levels of stress response that aren’t actually useful in that specific instance of our modern lives (but on average over time were useful in the deep time of our genetic ancestry).
