Aging and evolution

Has Aging Been Programmed By Evolution?

Every organism alive today seems to be part of a continuum of life some 4 billion years old.
It is only somatic cells of complex organisms that show any significant age related loss of function.
The default for all simple organisms is indefinite life.
Our germ line cells show indefinite life.

Aging is part of the suite of things that have led to the evolution of complexity.
It has got us to this point, now we very much need to go past it, and develop indefinite life of individuals. We really need to have a good chance of living with the long term consequences of our decisions – it would really help us to make decisions that work long term.

About Ted Howard NZ

Seems like I might be a cancer survivor. Thinking about the systemic incentives within the world we find ourselves in, and how we might adjust them to provide an environment that supports everyone (no exceptions) - see www.tedhowardnz.com/money
