Ideapod – On Education and Intellectual Humility

Interesting debate.
Understand Jim.

I have been a sceptic and scientist for over half a century.
My enquiries have led me to an understanding that all knowledge of reality is probabilistic and heuristically based (as amply demonstrated by Heisenberg).
Certainly we can in a sense construct intellectual models, and even in these realms Kurt Goedel has beautifully demonstrated incompleteness [Wolfram takes that to a whole new level].

If one was to attempt to model a human being from quantum mechanical first principles, given that quantum problems scale at the 7th power of the number of bodies, then even converting all the mass of our galaxy to computronium doesn’t give enough processing power to model one person.

Life is really really complex.
We need heuristics at many scales.
The notion of Truth seems to be a heuristic that many find useful – me not so much.
And it is clear to me how the Games Theoretical implications of evolution deliver the sorts of heuristics we observe in cultures.
