Happiness

Question of the Day, July 18, 19, 2015 Happiness

What are the secrets to Happiness?

Seem to be a couple of major things that can significantly impact on happiness.

One is acceptance.

Accepting what is, as it is, and giving up any resentment or wishing it any other way. Things past and present are as they are (whatever that actually is, which may or may not be as we see or imagine it).

There is only ever any real point in investing time and energy in the future.

It can be valuable reviewing the past in as far as it informs options for the future, and no further than that.

The other thing is managing expectations.

Marketing long ago identified that satisfaction is the difference between expectation and delivery.

If one has high expectations, and delivery doesn’t meet them, then one has low satisfaction.

To the extent possible, if one can manage to remove expectations (as distinct from setting low expectations) then everything that happens is a bonus. In one sense, this is what acceptance does.

And the more levels one can apply this to, the more interesting this experience of being becomes.
