Seeking Opinions

5 Feb ’15: QofDay: Seeking Contrasting Opinions?

Do you seek contrasting opinions about something before arriving at a conclusion or do you go with your initial instincts, or both but look for reassurance first?

I seem to be in good company – perhaps that comes from being human 😉

In normal situations I usually rely on intuition, and if it seems that there may be important consequences then I will both check the assumptions involved, both factual and conceptual, then check any calculations involved.

Rarely do I seek out opinion. I am much more likely to seek out evidence, logic and relationship.

As a friend used to say – your opinion and $3.50 will get you a cup of coffee – try getting the coffee without the $3.50 and you will get a measure of the value of opinion.

Rarely if ever am I swayed by opinion that is not backed by evidence and or logic. [This seems to be an outcome of a largely asocial schooling.]

Seems like I might be a cancer survivor. Thinking about the systemic incentives within the world we find ourselves in, and how we might adjust them to provide an environment that supports everyone (no exceptions) - see www.tedhowardnz.com/money
