Ideapod – New dark age

Ideapod – Are we at the edge of a new Dark Age?

Look deeper.
Humans are fundamentally cooperative entities – we are highly evolved for cooperation. All new levels of complexity of life can be characterised by the emergence of new levels of cooperation (with the attendant strategies to prevent cheating that bring stability).

Our society has adopted the values of the market as dominant values. Markets over value scarcity and undervalue abundance. Once the majority of people can see this, then we can design a replacement system that values individual life, individual liberty, and ecological sustainability over any market value.

We have the technology to deliver abundance of all the essentials of life (air, water, food, shelter, energy, communication, education, transportation, healthcare) to every person on the planet – but we don’t do so because there is no profit to be made – no market value.

The market system has reached the end of its social utility.
Technology can produce abundance with little human input.

Terrorism is a response to injustice.
Systemic market incentives deliver injustice.
Security is impossible under a market based system of values.

Security requires justice.
Our neural networks are highly evolved to identify injustice (and to punish those delivering it).
Extended distributed cooperative trust networks can deliver both justice and security, when empowered by technology.

And the cost of freedom will always be eternal vigilance, that is a reality that no amount of technology will change.

Not only vigilance, but a willingness to act when necessary.

That implies people willing to make their own judgements.
Our educational institutions do not teach that sort of independent thought. Our institutions teach obedience to authority at all levels.

True independent thought is not something that is highly valued in our social systems.

Seems like I might be a cancer survivor. Thinking about the systemic incentives within the world we find ourselves in, and how we might adjust them to provide an environment that supports everyone (no exceptions) - see
