Unexpected Calm

31 May 2014 ~Question of the Day~ Surprise Peace

Have you ever been surprised by peacefulness in a situation you expected to be difficult?

I was out fishing one day when another fisherman who had been frustrated by his lack of success while we had managed consistent good catches for a week. He came up ranting that I had set in front of him, and demanding that I give him all the fish we caught. I told him to stop being stupid and go away, and he lost it big time, pulled a 10 inch knife and tried to stick it into me. I was amazed how calm and clear I felt. For about 20 minutes I avoided his attempts to stick me with the knife, and eventually he calmed down an went away.
That night I reported the event to the Thames Police. I said I didn’t want to lay charges, and asked if the Sergeant have a word with the guy in question.
Must have been quite a word, because the guy never went fishing again.
The whole event had a sort of surreal calmness to it.
