Self Delusions

Question of the Day ~September 24, 2013~ Self Delusions

Hindus say that Maya cast a spell of “Illusion”, upon this world,
and that We “Live in this Illusion”, but that We can dispel the Illusion,
and become “Oneness”.
From what I can see, the world is full of “Delusion”,
from People who have deluded themselves, with Thoughts, Beliefs, and Concepts.
This is just another face of “Illusion”, of course, constructions created,
that “Don’t Work”, to deal with “the Problem”, of dealing with the Illusion.
Since “Self Delusion”, seems to be “Such a problem”,
How do You penetrate past Your “Self Delusions” ?
Or are You “Content”, with Your “Self Delusions”, and the “Delusions of the World ?

Illusion is an interesting idea.
It seems that logic dictates that we must all begin life by making gross simplifications.
We start with very simply notions, like black and white, good and evil, and only later learn that there are few such simple things in reality, and most of reality comes in potentially infinite variation.

We all start out with the illusions of our particular cultures.
If we are lucky enough to come from a culture that allows questioning, then we may challenge the assumptions of our cultures, and gain ever deeper and broader understandings of the nature of this reality we find ourselves in. And it seems to be a logical nonsense to expect any of our understandings to align perfectly with reality. Reality is just too complex, and our conscious awareness just too slow, for that to ever be a likely outcome.

It seems highly likely that the greatest illusion that culture gives us is the very idea of “Truth”.

About Ted Howard NZ

Seems like I might be a cancer survivor. Thinking about the systemic incentives within the world we find ourselves in, and how we might adjust them to provide an environment that supports everyone (no exceptions) with reasonable security, tools, resources and degrees of freedom, and reasonable examples of the natural environment; and that is going to demand responsibility from all of us - see
