Question of Day July 8, 2012 ~ 911 For Non-emergency Purposes
Should people who call 911 for non-emergency purposes be fined and/or jailed?
What sort of punishment, if any, would be appropriate for people who abuse such a vital system?
It seems to me that fines and jail don’t achieve a lot. They are options of last resort. Fines mean nothing to the wealthy and are disproportionately difficult for the poor.
Community service, working with emergency response teams for 6 weekends would seem to be an appropriate response.
