Hard Talk, Climate change, Energy future

Letter sent to BBC HardTalk

Just watched Stephen’s interview on Climate change in Australia.

One thing Stephen said is false. He said that there are no indicators that the climate change issue is being addressed. That is untrue.

If you look at the installed base of solar photovoltaics it is doubling every 2 years. Currently it provides 0.1% of required energy. To get from 0.1% to 100% is a factor of 1,000. Ten doublings is 1024, which is 20 years.

If developments in solar energy keep going as they have for the last 30 years, solar energy will solve the problem by 2030.

That is a fact.
That it is an exponential growth curve makes it difficult for many to see.

About Ted Howard NZ

Seems like I might be a cancer survivor. Thinking about the systemic incentives within the world we find ourselves in, and how we might adjust them to provide an environment that supports everyone (no exceptions) - see www.tedhowardnz.com/money
